65 ACRES OF BEAUTY
The Glenhagen Farm Retreat is a place to explore and experience the wonders of nature and grow through rich experiences. Groups of youth and adults from schools and houses of worship of all faiths will be able to explore a wide array of ecosystems on 65 acres of beautiful woods, valleys and streams in rural Illinois. Glenhagen Farm Retreat provides tent camping and a pavilion with washrooms, showers, a learning space and kitchen. Glenhagen also provides many activities for campers to engage with their environment, spirituality, and each other. Look below to learn more about our beautiful campus!
Facilities and Grounds
The pavilion has two bathrooms, a kitchen, and a learning space. Each bathroom has two private showers, two flush toilets and two sinks. In each bathroom, one shower and one toilet are handicapped accessible. The kitchen is equipped with a six-burner stove, oven, microwave, large refrigerator/freezer, triple sink and storage cabinets.
The learning space is under a roof and is open on three sides. It is equipped with folding tables and chairs to allow different configurations. We also provide a computer, projector, screen, and basic sound system.
In case of rain without strong winds, rolls of canvas can be released and fastened to the posts to provide additional shelter.
The bathrooms and kitchen are heated and the learning space is not heated.
Each person is provided with their own tent and a four inch thick comfortable cushion. The tents have mosquito screens which keep mosquitoes and other insects out of the tent. There is a capacity for up to a total of 40 campers in the tents.
A fire pit is available for campfires and marshmallow roasting is available, which is subject to restrictions in the event of drought to prevent wildfires.
Glenhagen is also host to mowed trails wind throughout the woods, meadows, hills, valleys and prairies, and Big Bureau Creek. Trails exist on both sides of the creek, although after it exceeds a certain height it is not possible to access the other side of the creek. Campers can enjoy benches placed in picturesque spots, perfect for enjoying the spectacular vistas and watching the wildlife.
In addition to a working farm we have our own organic garden for additional learning. Students can learn about plants native to Illinois, and how they can best contribute to the world around them. Our hands-on program provides students with a wealth of knowledge that they can use in their everyday life, and gives them a perspective on the natural world that they can bring back home.
